5 Things I Would Do If I Were Booking Kid’s Party Entertainment

I know that it can feel overwhelming trying to book kid’s party entertainment. I know because I’ve heard coutless stories of parents who felt stressed by the whole process…

….at least until they took my advice.

After over 10 years of experience entertaining children and families, here’s 5 things I would do if I were booking kid’s party entertainment.

  1. Find a Kid Show Specialist. A quick Google search will bring up dozens of entertainers who claim to be “the best” at everything from trade shows to corporate events to kid’s parties and weddings. It may sound impressive, but in reality that kind of entertainer should trigger a symphony of bells, whistles, alarms, and blow horns. Steer clear of the “jack of all trades, but master of none.” Unlike adults, kids won’t politely applaud when the entertainer bombs, is boring, or ends up being outright offensive. Do yourself a favor and arrange an appearance by an entertainer who specializes in performing for kids.
  2. Watch their video. Most demo videos run between 2-3 minutes. If you’re looking for some help making a decision, simply set aside 10 minutes, sit down with your child and have fun watching the videos together. As you watch, listen to your child’s comments and watch how he or she reacts. Kids tend to be blatantly honest and won’t hold back their opinions! (even more reason to follow my advice in #1)
  3. Read reviews. Yes, read the reviews on the entertainer’s website. But also find out if they have a Facebook page, Yelp Page, Google listing, or other place where people post honest reviews.
  4. Check out their credentials. Awards and affiliations are super, but you aren’t trying to impress judges or a convention of magicians. You want your child to have fun, so look for evidence that this is an entertainer who loves working with kids. Does this entertainer have a background in education? Can you find any pictures of the kid’s reacting during his show? How long has the entertainer been performing?
  5. Book early. When you find kid’s party entertainer that’s right for your child’s party, then book him as soon as you can! Weekends are the most popular days for parties, and there are only a few entertainers that specialize in performing for kids. So, as Carly Rae Jepsen says, “Hey! I just met you/This is crazy/But here’s my number/So call me maybe”
